Singing for Drug Awareness: 18 Sept 2012
LONDON, September 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Singingworks, one of the leading organisers of choirs in the workplace, is working
with the Angelus Foundation, and singing to get 'naturally high' at the Scoop, More London
Riverside on 18 September. It's free and all are welcome.
"We are delighted that Singingworks is working to raise awareness of the Angelus
Foundation and its important work campaigning to make effective drugs education made
compulsory in UK schools," comments Singingworks co-founder Heather Phillips. "Singing
together in a choir is a natural mood lifter as it releases endorphins and dopamine.
Making music with other people is life enhancing and hugely enjoyable."
"Singingworks have demonstrated today that getting naturally high is perfectly
attainable. Their London corporate choirs are setting a wonderful example to the nation
demonstrating that music and singing can precipitate an endorphin release in the brain,
making us feel good naturally, removing the need to sniff and swallow legal highs and club
drugs", said Maryon Stewart, health exert and founder of the Angelus Foundation.
Event Details: Tuesday 18 September 2012, 6.00pm - 7.00pm. The Scoop (next to City
Hall), More London Riverside, London, SE1 2AQ. The concert is free. Up to 150 singers in
eight choirs are taking part plus The London Trumpet Choir.
Workplace choirs will be in the news this autumn with the broadcast of Gareth Malone's
new TV series 'Sing While You Work'. "Singing builds community, team work skills and
individual and group confidence. It has a lot to contribute to the work environment," adds
Phillips.
The choirs taking part are: Norton Rose Choir (Norton Rose is a leading global law
firm and its choir won Office Choir of the Year 2012); Nomura Voices (the choir of
investment bank Nomura); Sounds Just Brilliant (the choir of international law firm S.J.
Berwin); Olsang (the choir of media/ corporate lawyers Olswang); the Mystery Voices Choir;
Acappella Amour (an acappella choir of nine gifted teenage girls); First Thought (Bath
based band of teenagers); Blackheath Centre For Singing (new, community hub for choral
singing); The London Trumpet Choir: 12 of the Country's finest professional trumpet
players.
