MONTERREY, Mexico, Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Two of the world's most iconic rock bands, Garbage and Linkin Park performed live tonight in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in one of the most anticipated nights of the year - MTV World Stage Monterrey Mexico.
International alternative rock band Garbage returned to Monterrey and the music scene tonight after a seven year hiatus. The band started the night at 8pm with hits "Supervixen" and "I Think I'm Paranoid", songs that drove the audience to a state of euphoria. Shirley Manson, Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker heated up the Monterrey Arena performing songs from their latest album, Not Your Kind Of People (2012), including "Blood for Poppies" and "Automatic Systematic Habit". The band surprised fans when they invited a Mariachi band on stage to perform "El son de la negra," a traditional Mexican song finished by a toast and shots of tequila. The audience chanted ME-XI-CO several times before Garbage resumed their set with other songs that drove the audience wild, including "Stupid Girl", "VOW", "Push It" and one of the most requested of the evening, "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!). The band closed their one-hour long performance with one of their biggest and most anticipated hits, "Only Happy When It Rains."
It was only a matter of minutes before the audience was screaming again when Linkin Park took the stage for the first time in Monterrey. "A Place for My Head", "Given Up" and "New Divide" were the first three songs performed by the superstar band from California. In the midst of an impressive display of lighting, special effects and a Mexican flag that graced the middle of the stage, the band also performed a medley of "Leave out All the Rest", "Shadow of the Day" and "Iridescent". During their set the band also played tribute to the late Adam MCA Yauch of the Beastie Boys by playing a rendition of "Sabotage" one of the bands most iconic songs. The evening reached its peak with "Catalyst", "Numb" and "In The End" and audience was brought to a tear-filled frenetic state with "Faint," "Lying from You" mashed up with "Papercut", and "One Step Closer," with which they closed the night.
Shot in high-definition, MTV World Stage Monterrey - Mexico will be produced into two TV shows premiering on MTV Latin America on October 5th for MTV World Stage Linkin Park, followed by MTV World Stage Garbage on October 12th. Versions of the show will also be broadcasted via MTV's global network of more than 60 channels in over 150 territories, reaching over 600 million households.
