Austin drug and alcohol treatment center partners with A&E's "Intervention" program to restore a family

Austin Recovery to be featured on Emmy® Award-winning real life show for third time

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Austin Recovery, the largest and most affordable not-for-profit drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas, has teamed up with the Emmy® Award-winning "Intervention" program for the third time to save an addict's life. The episode, featuring Austin Recovery, airs tonight, Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, on the A&E Network at 9 p.m. CDT.

This episode will feature Austin Recovery client "Diana." Former "Super Mom" to her three children, Diana has exchanged her apron for an alcohol and meth addiction and is unraveling her marriage, family and sense of self-respect. The woman who once took pride in filling her home with baked goods and handmade crafts found herself living in a cottage of addicts, doing nearly anything for money to support her daily drug and alcohol habit. Watching their once warm, vivacious mother spiral into a self-destructive depression has been horrifying for her children to witness. They turned to "Intervention" to help before it was too late.

"The stresses of life and parenting can be overwhelming for someone struggling with addiction and co-occurring psychiatric issues," said Jonathan Ross, CEO of Austin Recovery. "At Austin Recovery we recognize the necessity of addressing an individual's mental health issues, as well as their addiction, to give our clients the best chance of maintaining long-term sobriety."

Austin Recovery serves approximately 2,400 clients each year through 30- and 90-day residential treatment programs, as well as medical detox, outpatient treatment and Family House, a program that allows women to bring two children under the age of six with them to treatment. The treatment center's full-time Medical Director, Dr. Craig Franke is double-boarded in adult and addiction psychiatry. The majority of their clients are dually-diagnosed, suffering from both substance abuse addiction and mental illness. As was the case with Diana, these issues need to be addressed concurrently in order to successfully treat the underlying roots of their addiction.

"Austin Recovery is honored to continue working with A&E," said Ross. "The show's reach has done so much in raising public awareness of this disease, that help is available, and that it is possible to recover."

"Intervention" profiles people whose dependence on drugs and alcohol has brought them to a point of personal crisis or estranged them from their friends and loved ones. Each episode features a surprise intervention staged by family and friends of the addict. The series has conducted 236 interventions since its premiere in March 2005; 177 individuals are currently sober.
