Electric Vehicle Television (EVTV) To Hold Second Annual Electric Vehicle Conversion Convention (EVCCON) In Southeast Missouri

Electric Vehicle Television (EVTV) To Hold Second Annual Electric Vehicle Conversion Convention (EVCCON) In Southeast Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- EVTV, producers of the highly successful weekly "Friday Show", will host its Second Annual Electric Vehicle Conversion Convention (EVCCON) in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Sept. 26 - 30, 2012.

This year the conference will be held at the Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St., on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

The 2012 agenda, like last year's, features three days of continuous educational sessions with speakers on battery chemistries, charging techniques, controllers, motors and drive trains, instrumentation, weight and balance considerations and more.

The 2011 conference originally was conceived as a small gathering of EVTV viewers, but the concept grew into a full-blown convention within two weeks of the event's announcement due to the number of early registrations.

"EVCCON 2011 was good and EVCCON 2012 will be good, too. We're building on last year's success and momentum. It just wanted to happen again," said "Friday Show" producer Jack Rickard of the event that drew people from around the world to a small town in Southeast Missouri.

"Friday Show" co-host, Brian Noto, calls the response to EVCCON 2011 phenomenal attracting even greater interest in the 2012 event.

"Last year's event featured more than 150 attendees from around the world, including Canada, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal, Taiwan, Japan and Mexico. Thirty-one of the United States were represented and nearly 40 attendees brought their vehicles. This year we expect the paid attendance to almost double. Close to 200 electric vehicle builders have signed up for 2012 already with about 50 of them bringing their vehicles," Noto said, recently.

Attendees of the 2011 conference speak highly of the event.

"Cape Girardeau is the new Silicon Valley," said Eric Kriss. Kriss is co-founder of Bain Capital, a private equity firm. He is a former Massachusetts State Secretary of Administration and Finance. Kriss was Entrepreneur-in-Residence during the 2009-2010 academic year at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla.

IBM retiree Fred Behning also had great things to say about the conference. "The information was intense, the food fantastic and the fun beyond my wildest expectations," Behning said.

Ron Adamowicz, president of East Coast Electric Drag Racing Series, gave high marks to the conference's drag race. "EVCCON, largest EV drag racing event for 2011. Great time. Wonderful people from around the world."

The convention also features events that are free and open to the public: an East Coast Electric Drag Racing Association sanctioned 1/4 -mile electric vehicle drag race and Sports Car Club of America Solo autocross Friday, Sept. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau Airport. Saturday features a car show at Cape Girardeau's Capaha Park from 1 to 4 p.m. culminating with an electric vehicle parade through the streets of town.
