World Vision's Prestigious Korea Children's Choir Begins 2012 U.S. Tour

Founded in 1960, World Vision's longstanding tradition continues changing lives through songs

30 children aim to bring message of hope to voiceless children around the world

LOS ANGELES, July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week, World Vision's longstanding Korea Children's Choir returns to the United States to present its 3-week summer choir tour "Delivering Hope With Our Songs." The group of 30 children, ages 12-16, aim to bring messages of hope and love to voiceless children around the world through their unique performance that combines Korea traditions with new ideas. The three-week tour will travel from the west to east coast, including performances in California, Nevada, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland and New York.

16-year-old Chae Yeon Lim will be among the children performing during this year's 2012 choir tour. This past spring, Lim spent 8 days touring parts of Malawi to see World Vision's work benefiting children in Africa. "I saw that because of our songs, children can live in better conditions," says Lim.

History of World Vision's Korea Children's Choir:
In 1950, after traveling extensively in China and Korea as an evangelist, Dr. Bob Pierce started World Vision as a way for Americans to respond to the needs of countless widows, orphans and vulnerable children. In 1960, in the aftermath of the Korean War, Dr. Pierce brought a group of Korean orphans to the United States to sing in churches and public venues in order to raise awareness to the plight of children. World Vision's Korea Children's Choir was the voice for thousands of neglected children who were served through the ministry of World Vision in those early years. The choir toured the U.S. on numerous occasions from 1960 to the 1980's appearing at Carnegie Hall, the White House and The Ed Sullivan Show. Today choir members are no longer selected from orphanages but among mainstream, talented youth who continue to carry on the choir's original mission: to be a voice for the voiceless.
