Sweet Adelines International Choruses and Quartet Take Gold in World Choir Games

TULSA, Okla., July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sweet Adelines International Greater Harrisburg and Region 4 choruses and Canzonet quartet won gold-level awards during the World Choir games of 2012. In addition, Sweet Adelines International choruses took home three silver and one bronze award. The World Choir Games hosted more than 15,000 competitors from nearly 60 countries in 23 categories.

The Greater Harrisburg Chorus won the Grand Champion title in the World Choir Games' inaugural Barbershop Champion Competition, earning them a gold medal. The chorus is from Harrisburg, Pa., has 60 members and is directed by Claire Domenick. They have been performing since 1994. Greater Harrisburg Chorus scored 81.13 out of 100.

Canzonet quartet won the gold diploma in the World Choir Games' Open Competition - Barbershop division. The quartet is from Sunnyvale, Calif.; members of the quartet are: tenor Chris Jacobs, lead Laura Bode, baritone Suzanne Olsen and bass Julie Starr. Canzonet has been singing together for more than two years and came in second at Sweet Adelines International's Region 12 competition in spring 2012. Canzonet scored 21.98 out of 30.

A specially organized Sweet Adelines chorus from Region 4 won a gold diploma in the World Choir Games' Open Competition - Barbershop division. The chorus members are from Mason, Ohio, and had 130 members directed by Jean Barford. They formed in 2011 for the purpose of competing in the World Choir Games. The Region 4 chorus scored 21.48 out of 30.

Sweet Adelines International had additional choruses earn top scores in the World Choir Games, as well. Bay Area Sound of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Cincinnati Sound of Cincinnati, Ohio, won silver during the Barbershop Champion Competition with scores of 73.63 and 67.38 out of 100, respectively. Voice of America Chorus won silver and Sound Effects Chorus won bronze during the Open Competition.
