Danielle Colding Named HGTV's Newest Design Star
NEW YORK, July 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Danielle Colding, 36, an interior designer from Brooklyn, N.Y., has been crowned the season seven champion of the hit reality competition HGTV Design Star. During last night's season finale, judges Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder (Dear Genevieve), alongside guest judge David Bromstad (Color Splash), delivered the life-changing news to Danielle that she'd won a contract for her own show on HGTV. She will star in a five-episode series, Shop This Room, premiering on Saturday, August 4, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
"Being chosen as HGTV's Design Star is an absolute dream come true! I can't wait to begin this next chapter," said Danielle about winning the competition.

While the Design Star on-air season has come to a dramatic conclusion, viewers can still select a Fan Favorite designer who will win his or her own online show on HGTV.com. Viewers can visit HGTV.com/designstar to vote up to 10 times per day for the designer who they believe is the best of this season's talented finalists. Voting ends at 12 p.m. ET on Friday, July 27, and the winner will be announced immediately following the voting deadline.
Now able to focus on a successful premiere for Shop This Room, Danielle is happy to celebrate her win and says she is relieved that the time constraints of a competition no longer apply. Her new series showcases her personal approach to designing a room where she starts with an inspiration item and builds an entire room around it. Whether it's a ginger jar, a grandmother's photo or a mid-century lamp, Danielle shows viewers how to design a space around their favorite pieces.
"Danielle is smart, traveled, incredibly creative, and brings a really fresh design perspective to HGTV viewers," said Yip.
During the HGTV Design Star finale, Danielle competed against Britany Simon to create a TV show pilot. As part of the production, each had to deliver a unique show concept, collaborate with real homeowners and showcase room designs that they believed would help them win the competition. The two finalists worked with different families to transform adjoining living-dining rooms into cohesive spaces.
"Our audience will be inspired and charmed by Danielle's design skills and genuine enthusiasm--she's a natural in front of the camera," said Kathleen Finch, general manager, HGTV. "She definitely embodies what we're looking for in our next Design Star."
This season of HGTV Design Star featured a star-studded panel of guest judges, including HGTV's Sabrina Soto and the Kitchen Cousins, John Colaneri and Anthony Carrino. The series' celebrated line-up also included DIY Network's Vanilla Ice, entrepreneur and TV personality Daisy Fuentes, Emmy award-winning actress Marg Helgenberger and superstar mom-ager Kris Kardashian Jenner.
