NEW YORK, June 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To paraphrase Gordon Gekko, "Greed can be good!" Weekly financial series Consuelo Mack WealthTrack reveals how you can make a positive impact with your investments and make money at the same time with a new, two-part special on "Impact Investing" beginning Friday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. nationwide on public television (check local listings) to open its ninth season.
"Impact investing is a global movement," explains Anchor and Managing Editor Consuelo Mack, "and U.S. businesses and investors are just beginning to realize it, which is why WealthTrack is bringing it to the attention of the American public. Impact investing goes far beyond what used to be called 'socially responsible investing.' Instead of solely focusing on doing no harm and avoiding certain companies considered to be 'sin' stocks: tobacco, alcohol, gambling, etc., impact investors are proactive and have a positive influence with their investments. They consider every aspect of a company's operations, not just the financial ones: how its employees are treated, the effect it has on communities and countries, environmental, societal and governance issues, and the sustainability of products and policies."
In part one of the "Impact Investing Opportunities" special, premiering nationwide beginning Friday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. on public television (check local listings), Mack interviews two seasoned practitioners to help investors get started: Bill Paul, a "Financial Thought Leader" in the environmental and energy fields, is an independent consultant, analyst and long-time journalist (The Wall Street Journal and others); Mary Jane McQuillen is a portfolio manager and the head of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Investment Program at ClearBridge Advisors, a division of Legg Mason. They explain impact investing basics and how to profit from it. WealthTrack explores specific investment themes, strategies and stocks in "Impact Investing Opportunities, Part Two,"premiering nationwide beginning Friday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. on public television (check local listings). Mack interviews Amy O'Brien, director of social investing at TIAA-CREF, the giant pension fund for individuals and institutions in the academic, medical, governmental research, and cultural fields, and Ingrid Dyott, co-manager of the Neuberger Berman Socially Responsive Fund and one of the top-performing mutual fund managers in the field. In season nine, WealthTrack continues to give viewers strategies to build their financial security and tackle economic, market and political changes. "One of the lessons learned through the financial crisis is how critical independence of thought, contrarian thinking and discipline is for long-term investment success," notes Mack. "We interview individuals who march to a different drummer and are proud that our 'Great Investors' and 'Financial Thought Leaders' have provided such valuable advice to our viewers."
Upcoming season nine guests include a rare interview with "Financial Thought Leader" David Rosenberg, premiering Friday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. nationwide on public television (check local listings). One of the few to foresee the current global slowdown, the influential economist and strategist will discuss his ongoing concerns about the economic outlook and his strategy to preserve capital and generate income. Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. (check local listings), "Great Investor" Bob Doll, BlackRock's widely followed Chief Equity Strategist and long-time portfolio manager of three large cap funds, shares his views on why the global flight from stocks into bonds is fraught with risk for investors. Consuelo interviews "Financial Thought Leader" Francois Trahan, who has been ranked as Wall Street's number one strategist, on Friday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. (check local listings). Later this summer, WealthTrack presents an exclusive interview with "Financial Thought Leader" Charles Ellis, a legendary consultant to global investors, who discusses his new research on investment management fees. Ellis finds fees are much higher than most people realize and that these fees are really hurting investment returns.
This fall, "Great Investor" Matthew McLennan, manager of the legendary First Eagle Global Fund, will discuss why gold remains a core holding of his funds. Consuelo Mack WealthTrack will also present a multi-part special on women and investing, delving into how women can gain the financial security they want for themselves and their loved ones. "We are looking forward to helping women achieve financial peace of mind, recognizing that their concerns and goals are not being acknowledged or met by traditional financial service providers," says Mack.
Since July 2005, Consuelo Mack WealthTrack has provided trustworthy, understandable advice about building and protecting wealth over the long-term from the best minds in the business world. The series remains the only program on television devoted to long-term diversified investing. USA Today praised, "Consuelo Mack's Charlie Rose-esque interview style -- quietly intelligent, thoughtful and aimed at a well-informed audience -- suits her half-hour show." In 2008, Money magazine named WealthTrack "The Best Money on TV," saying, "[Jim] Cramer may entertain, but when it is your future at stake, you're far better off tuning in to Mack and her thoughtful guests."
