UN-backed We Are Water Foundation: Viewers Begin Voting for the WeartWater Film Festival with María de Medeiros as Jury Member
MADRID, May 8, 2012/PRNewswire/ --
The very first edition of the WeartWaterFilm Festival, organised by the We Are Water
Foundation, draws over 450 participants from 72 different countries. The WeartWater Film
Festival is the first International Short Film Competition showcasing work that aims to
raise awareness among the world's population about water and food security issues across
the globe. These are the topics that have been chosen by the United Nations as the central
theme for the 2012 World Water Day.
The public has until 31 May to vote for their favourite video. They can do this
through the competition's website http://www.weartwaterfestival.org
[http://www.wearewater.org ]. The jury will be composed of personalities from the film
industry and literature, as well as people working in cooperation. They include actress
and singer María de Medeiros, film-maker Isabel Coixet, film director Ray Loriga, and the
UN representative, Carlos Jiménez Renjifo, Desk Officer for Spain at the Regional United
Nations Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC). They will be selecting the best
film from each of three categories.
The winners, whose names will be announced in June, will visit one of the Foundation's
projects where they will be allowed to film a documentary. They will also attend the
filming of the next Isabel Coixet movie, as well as winning other prizes. The contest
comprises three categories: real or fictional micro-documentaries, animated films and
mobile videos. Participants, who must be over 18 years old, have been instructed to submit
a one to three minute-long movie or video to enter the competition.
About the We Are Water Foundation
The We Are Water Foundation has two main objectives. The first is to influence public
opinion, making people and institutions reflect on the need to build a new culture around
water to promote a fairer development and a more sustainable management of the world's
water resources. The second is to implement a wide variety of actions aimed at mitigating
the negative impact of the lack of adequate water resources. The Foundation focuses its
activities on getting involved in the infrastructure, education, health and research
projects in the poorest parts of the world.
