LA Chinatown Participates in International Art Phenomenon Play Me I'm Yours

LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Play Me I'm Yours" is an international visual and performance art phenomenon that has been touring internationally since 2008. Created by British artist Luke Jerram, the project aims to create a place of exchange and invites the public to engage with, activate and take ownership of their urban environment using pianos as a conduit. Over 500 pianos have now been installed in cities across the globe, from New York to Sydney and now Los Angeles.

For three weeks beginning April 12, 2012, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra brings "Play Me I'm Yours" to Los Angeles with LA Chinatown as one of the honored participants. 30 pianos, designed and decorated by local artists and community organizations, are featured across Los Angeles County and are available for everyone to play in celebration of acclaimed conductor and pianist Jeffrey Kahane's 15th anniversary as LACO music director. Artist Shan Chao and Cindy Suriyani along with youths from Chinatown Service Center collaborated on a piano for LA Chinatown. The historic district will host a "lunch launch" of "Play Me I'm Yours" on April 12 at 12 noon. Thirty pianists across LA kick off the installation with a simultaneous play-in of Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier at all 30 pianos. After that, the piano will be on display at Central Plaza in LA Chinatown from April 12 - May 3, 2012 and is available to any member of the public to play and enjoy.
