LAS VEGAS, April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- What would inspire an entertainment industry veteran to shut down his entire life in the New York City area, buy a camera, move to a small town of 2500 people in Thamesford, Ontario, Canada, by himself, to film the story of a professional fighter, and the two deaths that surround his life; the death of his father, and the untimely death of his best friend, mentor, trainer and manager, Shawn Tompkins? Well, the answer points to this veteran Garianno Lorenzo's own father and the losses he has personally suffered. His passion has culminated into a 90-minute documentary entitled Fight Spirit Pride (www.FightSpiritPride.com).
Garianno lost his father a few years prior, and like a wound that never heals, all it took for Lorenzo to feel the need to tell UFC fighter Mark Hominick's story was to see Hominick push away tears talking with Fear Factor's Joe Rogan about his own father's battle with cancer, at an Ultimate Fighting Championship event. Lorenzo said that watching Mark go through this painful time in his life helped Lorenzo come to terms with the loss of his own dad; "I have gained more understanding through this documentary," he stated.
Recently, Lorenzo posted the project on Kickstarter (www.kck.st/HNY6Jr) hoping to garner pledges toward finishing post-production. Kickstarter.com is a reputable website where anybody could contribute small amounts of money to support the vision of creative people with a passion project. With only a dollar and a dream, Lorenzo began his journey into the unknown. He began filming with little knowledge of the camera and even less knowledge of the MMA sport. Now, he is proficient at both.
Lorenzo's camera recorded the emotion of mixed martial arts fighter Mark Hominick as his ambition got tested over and over again, through the deaths of the two must important male figures in Mark's young life, his father and his mentor. But he showed courage through every personal battle, like a warrior.
As if it were scripted, Garianno captured and crafted the narrative document into a film, out of the real events as it happened in real-time; the ups, the downs, the fights in and out of the cage, the parties, the life and the deaths.
Incredibly, Lorenzo stayed in Canada and filmed for six years alone with no help, financial or otherwise. He did whatever he needed, to keep filming. He now has amassed more than three terabytes of shots. Lorenzo made a commitment, and has finished filming, but is seeking additional funding to complete editing of his passion project. It's come down to the wire for Lorenzo; he has to finish editing. He has put his trust into Kickstarter and the people who believe in him and his vision.
Mark Hominick at UFC 145 in Atlanta, GA this past Saturday gave an amazing display of technical striking skills, as he fights his way back to the title of World Champion. It was no surprise that Lorenzo was there to capture the moment and support his friend. Another film Fightville, is among three MMA films soon to be released, but Lorenzo's film covers a six-year timespan, which makes Fight Spirit Pride unique.
