Michigan Association of Broadcasters honors WXYZ with six Best and three Merit Awards

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV was named Station of the Year for the second consecutive year by Michigan Association of Broadcasters at the Broadcast Excellence Awards presentation held Wednesday night in Lansing. Stations from across the state competed for the coveted award in several broadcast categories. WXYZ received top honors for:

Best Newscast - 7 Action News at 11 "City in Crisis"
Best Community Involvement - "Detroit 2020 Inspiring Change"
Best Special Interest Programming - "Detroit 2020 A Conversation For Change"
Best News Reporter - Scott Lewis
Best News Special- "Wayne County Confidential"
Best Photojournalist - John Ciolino

Retired WXYZ Chief Meteorologist Jerry Hodak, who emceed the awards gala, presented WXYZ with the Station of the Year Award. WXYZ received the award in the Market1 Division against all other stations in the Detroit market.
