NEW YORK, March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent TV appearances by red-hot British pop-vocal sensation THE WANTED on Ellen and Chelsea Lately, bolstered by a feature placement on FOX's Glee for the group's premiere U.S. single "Glad You Came" on Mercury/Island Def Jam, combined to kick the song to #2 on the U.S. iTunes chart and #1 on the Canadian iTunes chart. The group now looks forward to upcoming spots on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, NBC's The Today Show, ABC's The View, along with headlining this year's second annual mtvU Spring Break 2012 in Las Vegas.
Success has come quickly for THE WANTED, first with a sold-out headlining show at New York's Gramercy Theater, followed by their yet again sold-out 3-week, 10-city promotion and performance mini-tour of the U.S., which kicked off in Orlando and wrapped up with a gala night at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. In the wake of the tour, "Glad You Came" blasted into the Billboard Hot 100's Top 10, vaulting 23*-5* with top Digital Gainer honors, jumped to #9-bullet on the Top 40 Airplay chart, jumped 19*-3* on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs Chart, with a total radio audience of more than 60 million, on over 160 pop stations, and officially impacted at Hot AC formats last week.
THE WANTED's performance of "Glad You Came" on Ellen (January 10th) and their sit-down interview on Chelsea Lately (February 8th) contributed to their chart success. The group has already played London's Wembley Stadium twice (80,000 fans), and have now embarked on their inaugural sold-out UK arena tour, which includes a stop at London's O2 Arena in March, before follow-up tour legs across America, Europe and Australia. Amidst all that, THE WANTED will be back Stateside for more roadwork, including appearances on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 20th, NBC's The Today Show on April 24th, and ABC's The View on April 25th.
Since 2009, THE WANTED - Tom Parker, Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, and Nathan Sykes - have become front-page news with their ferociously infectious tunes, rock solid friendship and laddish charms. Since the release of their debut #1 single two years ago, "All Time Low" (from their self-titled debut album of 2010), they have become a sensation in the UK, Ireland, South East Asia, and across Europe, piling up a string of five Top 3 singles in the UK. They have artfully transcended the 'boy band' mould and brought a blast of much-needed fresh air to British pop music.
From their roots as a band who paid their dues performing in seedy nightclubs and working school tours that took them across the whole of the UK, they ascended to a BRIT Award nomination ('Best British Single' for "All Time Low") and the sold-out nationwide 'Behind Bars' Tour in March-April 2011. They earned slots at the iTunes and V festivals in July and August, with 15,000 hollering revelers packing out the Big Blue Tent at V for a set that many agreed was a highlight of the UK festival.
