Singer-Songwriter and Author Jewel to Publish Debut Picture Book with Simon & Schuster's Paula Wiseman Books

NEW YORK, March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning singer, songwriter, poet, actress, and new mother Jewel has signed with Paula Wiseman Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, to publish That's What I'd Do, a picture book and CD celebrating the love for her newborn son. That's What I'd Do will be published on September 18, 2012, and is the author's first picture book.

That's What I'd Do is a gentle lullaby from a mother to a child celebrating their bond and limitless love. With lively illustrations by award-winning artist Amy June Bates, this touching picture book and CD is perfect for bedtime sharing. The book was inspired by the song What I'd Do, music and lyrics by Jewel and Patrick Davis, from the bonus edition of the album The Merry Goes Round.

"I love to sing to my son, Kase, and I hope my first children's book, That's What I'd Do, will be shared with new babies in the same way," says Jewel. "All children need the joy of music in their lives."

"Jewel's tender and imaginative lyrics make a book that will please new parents and children time and time again," says Paula Wiseman, Vice President & Publisher of Paula Wiseman Books. "We are pleased to launch Jewel's children's books here at Simon & Schuster."

First-time mother Jewel has recorded both country and children's albums that have sold millions of copies around the world, and is a four-time Grammy nominee. Jewel is also the author of The New York Times bestseller A Night Without Armor and Chasing Down the Dawn, and she lives with her husband and son in rural Texas.

Amy June Bates has illustrated many books for children, including Hilary Rodham Clinton: Dreams Taking Flight by Kathleen Krull, The Dog Who Belonged to No One by Amy Hest, and You Can Do It! by Tony Dungy.

The agreement was negotiated by Jon Anderson, Executive Vice President & Publisher of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, and Robert Barnett of Williams & Connolly LLP, and includes world rights. Paula Wiseman will edit the book.
