Qi Gong Exercise Programs to Premiere in March on New York Area Public Television Stations

Qi Gong Exercise Programs to Premiere in March on New York Area Public Television Stations

NEW YORK, March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Millions of harried New York-area residents will soon be asked to slow down, breathe, and try what may be counterintuitive to their idea of exercise. The ancient Chinese exercise of Qi Gong, or what some call "Chinese yoga," will be coming soon via a set of instructional programs airing on public television stations in the New York metro area.

The two programs, Qi Gong Flow for Beginners(TM) and Qi Gong: The Flow Continues(TM), will premiere Monday, March 5 on THIRTEEN, and will continue to air throughout the March membership drive (check local listings for THIRTEEN, WLIW21 and NJTV).

Qi Gong is a gentle form of exercise that includes slow movements, deep breathing, and a meditative state of mind. Like Tai Chi, Qi Gong delivers a complete workout for body, mind, and spirit.

"Americans seem to be more familiar with Tai Chi, which is actually a more complex form of Qi Gong," explained Lesley Workman, executive producer and founder of Exercise To Heal, the producer of the programs. "Qi Gong offers the same health benefits, but is simpler. Also, I love yoga, but Qi Gong is easier, especially for seniors and those with any health challenges."

"The 'yoga boom' of the last decade has opened the eyes of Americans to the idea of more spiritually minded exercise," says Lee Holden, the host of these Exercise To Heal television programs.

Holden began studying the mind-body exercises of Tai Chi and Qi Gong over 25 years ago as a student athlete in college, traveling to China to become a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, studying with self-improvement leader Deepak Chopra, and even teaching Qi Gong to Hollywood celebrities. Through his television programs airing on public television stations nationwide, he has been instrumental in bringing Tai Chi and Qi Gong to America.

The National Institute of Health recommends Qi Gong as a safe way to exercise and enhance wellness, and various recent medical studies have confirmed Qi Gong's effectiveness in managing various medical conditions, including hypertension, fibromyalgia, and depression.

Exercise To Heal, the producer and distributor of Lee Holden's Qi Gong DVDs, offers 19 Qi Gong and related DVDs, many of which offer specific medical benefits, such as help with weight loss, reducing stress, or relieving back and neck pain. Many of these titles can be purchased directly from Exercise To Heal's website, http://www.ExerciseToHeal.com.

One of the programs, Qi Gong Flow for Beginners(TM), a staple on public television since 2005, has been watched and practiced by millions of viewers. The 30-minute routine, filmed on the bed of a shaded creek deep in the woods of California, should be a delight to the senses of tri-state area viewers. The fluid movements of Qi Gong, Lee's calming manner, and the deep breathing exercises provide a great way for viewers to reduce stress and become "grounded."

The second program, Qi Gong: The Flow Continues(TM), is also geared for beginners and similarly serves as an excellent introduction to Qi Gong exercise for viewers of all ages and fitness levels.

Immediately following the exercise portion of the program, Lee Holden will be on-hand to talk to station personalities and answer questions about Qi Gong and its benefits.
