OBAP, AA Credit Union Commemorate Black History Month With 'Red Tails' Private Screening for DFW-Area Students
FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Feb. 11, 2012, the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP), in conjunction with the American Airlines Federal Credit Union (AA Credit Union), will observe Black History Month with a private screening of the George Lucas-produced film Red Tails. Nearly 2,000 students are expected to attend.
The AMC Grapevine Mills 30 theater will host the Red Tails screening, which shares the story of a group of heroic World War II-era African-American pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen. There will also be an opportunity for the students to talk with aviation and aerospace professionals.
This action-drama is directed by Anthony Hemingway from a screenplay by John Ridley and Aaron McGruder. The story, written by Ridley, is inspired by true events. The movie stars Cuba Gooding Jr., who previously starred in the HBO movie The Tuskegee Airmen, and Terrence Howard, who portrayed a Tuskegee pilot in the 2002 film Hart's War. The movie was released Jan. 20 and was the No. 2 highest-grossing movie on its opening weekend.
Albert Glenn, Chairman of OBAP, is delighted to have the generous support of the AA Credit Union. "This historical film lends inspiration to our youth by providing lessons on courage, success and leadership," said Glenn. "We are excited about sharing this film and interacting with the nearly 2,000 young people who will be in attendance."
About OBAP
Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1976 to enhance, advance and promote educational opportunities in aviation. From the outset, OBAP has focused its greatest emphasis on preparing young people to realize a successful future and highlight the exciting potential available in aviation. To be certain, an aviation-oriented group representing African-American and minority concerns was neither new nor unique. OBAP's unique approach to the concept was to build on the progress made in the military and general aviation arenas by expanding the cause within the airline industry. OBAP was formerly the Organization of Black Airline Pilots. Recently OBAP has expanded its goals to include all careers in aerospace. Visit our website at www.obap.org for additional information.
