Multiple Sclerosis Foundation to Present Free Screening of 'Forks over Knives' March 14 at Cinema Paradiso in Ft. Lauderdale, in Recognition of National MS Education & Awareness Month
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF), a national foundation with headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, announced it will host several events during March in observance of National MS Education and Awareness Month, including a free screening of the acclaimed film 'Forks Over Knives' with an after-party option on March 14 at Cinema Paradiso.
The feature film examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict people can be controlled or even reversed by avoiding animal-based and processed foods.
MSF also will a host national teleconference featuring Daniel Kantor, M.D., on March 13 titled "At Your Best With MS - MS Treatments and Symptom Management" scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. EDT, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. PDT. The event is supported by an educational grant from Teva Neuroscience.
Also Phillip Rumrill, Ph.D., CRC, is scheduled to speak during another "At Your Best with MS" teleconference on "Managing Life with a Disability" on March 21, from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. EDT, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. PDT.
"MS is an often overlooked and misunderstood disease, yet it is one of the most common neurological conditions affecting young adults," said Nathalie Sloane, Director of Development for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Other Foundation events include a "Show us Your Best" contest throughout the month of March. Contestants with MS will share how they use their "best" to do one or more of the following: promote MS awareness and education, help those with the condition, or raise funds for the MS cause. "We'd like everyone to know how lending their best skill or talent to the cause will keep you 'At Your Best with MS'," Sloane said. The grand prize is a cruise for two aboard the MSF's 2013 Cruise for a Cause(TM) to Alaska.
These are national efforts by the MSF and affiliated groups to raise public awareness of multiple sclerosis. The goals of this campaign are to promote an understanding of the scope of this disease as well as to distribute contact information for resources that can assist those affected. Information about the programs and how to get involved is available at www.msfocus.org. In coming months, MSF plans a signature golf tournament.
