Karmaloop.com Launches Indie Film Series with Boston Showing, Filmmaker Q&A at Historic Brattle Theatre
Online Streetwear Retailer Broadens Media Horizons with Feb. 27th "Dirty Old Town" Presentation, First in Planned Succession of Viewing Events in Major U.S. Cities
BOSTON, Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On Monday, February 27th, Karmaloop.com is hosting the first in a series of planned independent film screening events with the official Boston Premiere of Daniel B. Levin's, Jenner Furst's and Julia Willoughby Nason's acclaimed "Dirty Old Town," the tale of a junk store owner's 72-hour battle to come up with the rent needed to save his business from extinction. Filmed in various New York locations, Dirty Old Town has been theatrically released in New York and Berlin, and has been the focal point for special events in those cities as well as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris and London.
Karmaloop's Boston event at the historic Brattle Theatre, which has shown the best classic, cutting-edge, foreign and art-house films since 1953, represents the innovative online streetwear retailer's formal entry into the film genre, following its successful 2008 launch of the multi-platform broadband programming network Karmaloop TV (www.KarmaloopTV.com). Staged from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., the Boston event will include a post-showing audience Q&A session with Levin. Karmaloop will present similar independent film events later this year in Los Angeles, New York and other major cities.
"Our involvement with indie films is a natural extension of Karmaloop's identity as a verge culture leader, transcending streetwear to include involvement and support of the movement's use of digital communication to spread the latest trends not only in fashion but also music, technology, art, action sports and now film," said Gio Chiu, Boston-based Karmaloop's Marketing Director. "We are proud to present the official Boston screening of Dirty Old Town."
"We are currently talking with additional producers, directors and theaters across the country to stage similar events that reflect Karmaloop's expanding commitment to leverage street and social networking in support of this growing and increasingly influential culture," Chiu said.
Echoing Karmaloop's commitment to new, different and unique fashion styles, Dirty Old Town has drawn a unique crowd of enthusiasts to worldwide events that have shattered the traditional perception of the traditional movie-going experience to rally local youth cultures with art, music and nightlife.
In addition to Dirty Old Town, his first feature narrative, Daniel B. Levin's 2008 documentary, "Captured," which will be screening on Tuesday, February 27th at Emerson College, has screened worldwide and is digitally distributed by Cinetic Rights Management. He is also the Director of Photography for the second season of the Sundance Channel's Emmy-nominated docu-series Brick City.
