2012's Hard Hitting Documentary Greedy Lying Bastards Taps Award Winning Composer Michael Brook for Soundtrack
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Filmmaker Craig Rosebraugh announced today that Grammy Award-nominated Canadian composer, producer and guitarist Michael Brook has signed to create the original score for the documentary film Greedy Lying Bastards set for release this year.
In making the announcement, Rosebraugh said, "Michael Brook is a prodigiously gifted composer and we are elated to have him join the film's creative team. Given his work on one of the most important environmental films of the past decade, few composers make a better match to our documentary's subject matter, the insidious domination of the fossil fuel industry. Brook has created phenomenal soundtracks for an impressive array of films including Mission Impossible 2; Black Hawk Down; Into the Wild; Country Strong; The Fighter and Darwin."
Michael Brook composed the score for the hot button, 2006 Al Gore global warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and produced the soundtrack, as well as contributed compositions to the much lauded traveling exhibition, Ashes and Snow. Over the past 25 years, Brook has amassed an impressive body of work. Among his many achievements, he composed and performed the acclaimed score for the Academy Award nominated documentary The Fires of Kuwait, worked on the soundtrack for director Michael Mann's film Heat, composed the music for Kevin Spacey's Albino Alligator and the score for Paul Schrader's feature Affliction.
A highly accomplished composer, producer and musician, Mr. Brook's extensive discography is the result of a collaboration with a long list of international talent including Pieter Nooten, Mary Margaret O'Hara, The Pogues, Bryan Ferry, Youssou N'Dour, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cheb Khaled, Indian electric mandolin player U. Srinivas and the Armenian duduk flute master Djivan Gasparayan.
Greedy Lying Bastards presents a searing indictment of the influence, deceit and corruption that defines the fossil fuel industry. The film's epic cinematography commanded an epic soundtrack. Rosebraugh's in-depth investigation into the industry took him to five continents and nine countries. Filmed in the US, Tuvalu, Peru, England, Uganda, Kenya, Belgium, Denmark and Germany, the filmmaker and political activist documents the impact of an industry that has continually put profits before people, waged a campaign of lies designed to thwart measures to combat climate change, used its clout to minimize infringing regulations and undermine the political process domestically and abroad.
