NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As the ongoing "Rihanna: UNLOCKED" campaign gathers momentum around the world, Island Def Jam's reigning queen of the Billboard Hot 100 earns a second week at #1 with "We Found Love" (feat. Calvin Harris), setting the stage for Rihanna's performance of the song on FOX's The X Factor next Thursday night, November 17th. The excitement is building up to the release of TALK THAT TALK, Rihanna's upcoming sixth Island Def Jam studio album, arriving November 21st, coinciding with her appearance on Ellen the same day.
In the final week and a half leading up to the release of TALK THAT TALK, Rihanna's 46 million-plus Facebook fans (http://www.facebook.com/rihanna, where she is the #1 female artist) and 9 million-plus Twitter followers are feverishly working overtime to unlock all the exclusives from the new album. Yesterday, the Rihanna Navy unlocked the iTunes pre-order for the new album (http://idj.to/rihTTTitunes). Tomorrow, Rihanna will reward her tens of millions of fans worldwide by unlocking TALK THAT TALK's second single pick, "You Da One" (produced by hitmaker Dr. Luke). Thus far UNLOCKED has garnered over 500 million Facebook impressions and significant Twitter and Facebook fan growth, 2 million and 1.5 million fans, respectively.
Rihanna made Billboard history last week, when "We Found Love" became her 11th #1 hit on the Hot 100, and her 20th Top 10 hit. She collected her 20 Hot 100 Top 10 singles faster than any other solo artist, six years and four months, as reported by Billboard.com. The time span beat Madonna's previous record (by five months), and now places Rihanna second only to the Beatles. The Supremes now move down to third place. Additionally, "We Found Love" notches Rihanna her 16th #1 Billboard Dance single.
In the Top 10 hits race, Rihanna enters a very rare field as just the fifth woman to earn the honor, noted Billboard.com, citing Whitney Houston (with 23 career Top 10s), Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson (27 each), and Madonna in first place (37).
TALK THAT TALK is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Loud (released November 2010), an industry phenom that is multi-platinum worldwide, with global sales of nearly 8 million. Loud's release one year ago registered over 200,000 first week sales, the biggest Soundscan week of Rihanna's recording career. From the album, "Only Girl (In the World),""What's My Name" (featuring Drake), and "S&M" became Rihanna's 8th, 9th and 10th #1 hits, respectively; the album also contained the Top 10 "Cheers (Drink To That)." Prior to Loud, Rihanna struck RIAA platinum with Rated R (November 2009), containing the #1 hit, "Rude Boy." Rihanna became the first female artist of the decade to chart six #1's on the Hot 100 when "Rude Boy" went to the top spot. Rated R also contained the Top 10 hits "Russian Roulette" and "Hard" (featuring Jeezy).
Rihanna's chart career began with her RIAA gold debut from 2005, Music Of the Sun, featuring the world-wide smash, "Pon De Replay." She graduated to RIAA platinum with her second album, 2006's A Girl Like Me, which contained the back-to-back hits, "S.O.S." (her first #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100), "Unfaithful," and "Break It Off" (featuring Sean Paul).
Rihanna went on to double-platinum with Good Girl Gone Bad (May 2007), containing the Grammy-winning global #1 hit "Umbrella" (featuring Jay-Z), then "Shut Up and Drive," "Hate That I Love You" (featuring Ne-Yo), and "Don't Stop the Music." The CD+DVD package Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded (January 2009) continued the hits with the #1 "Take A Bow" and the #1 "Disturbia." Rihanna's track record also includes #1 hits with T.I. ("Live Your Life" in 2008), and Eminem ("Love the Way You Lie" in 2010, named Top Rap Song Of the Year at the Billboard Music Awards); and the #1 Rap - #2 Hot 100 - #3 R&B sensation of 2009, "Run This Town" with Jay-Z & Kanye West.
