LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blackbird Academy of Arts - with the help of platinum recording artist Kris Allen and the Grammy Award-winning David Hodges - hopes to inspire and showcase new songwriting talent with the Alchemy Songwriting Competition. All proceeds from the competition including entry fees, event sponsorships, and showcase finale ticket sales will go to benefit Blackbird Academy of Arts, which provides affordable arts and music education in the Central Arkansas area.

The Alchemy Songwriting Competition, which was originally announced on October 15th, is open to all aspiring songwriters who are residents of the USA and 13 years of age or older. Songwriters will compete across numerous genres including Folk, Pop, Rock/Alternative, Hip-Hop, Jazz/Blues, Gospel/Christian, Country, Instrumental and R&B. The top ten finalists will be invited to Arkansas to perform their songs at a showcase concert on December 3rd.

"The Alchemy Songwriting Competition is a great way for all aspiring songwriters to get their music heard by music industry professionals like Kris Allen and David Hodges," says Jennie Strange, Founder and Executive Director of Blackbird Academy.

Mr. Allen and Mr. Hodges will be among the judges at the showcase and will give feedback to the finalists and help to determine an overall winner. The grand prize winner will receive a trip to Los Angeles and a recording session with award-winning producers Ryan Peterson and Nolan Sipe.

"We are really excited about the number of entries we have received so far, but we want to remind everyone that there is still time for contestants to prepare and submit their songs," explained Ricky Williams, an organizer for the Alchemy Competition.

Songwriters have until November 15th to submit their entries. Complete information regarding the competition, including entry forms, contest rules, and sponsorship information, can be found at www.thealchemycompetition.org.
