LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Daniel Pearl Foundation (www.danielpearl.org) announced today that this October's Daniel Pearl World Music Days set a record with 2,089 events in 84 countries. World renowned musicians, performers and artists from around the world participated in this awareness-raising initiative by dedicatingtheir music to the theme of "Harmony for Humanity."
Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002, is remembered at these concerts as a man who built bridges among cultures and as a symbol of the struggle of goodness against intolerance. Danny was a gifted musician who always traveled with his violin or mandolin to connect people through words and music.
President Obama issued a Presidential Statement and several Governors issued proclamations in support of The Daniel Pearl World Music Days. In addition, more than 20 U.S. Embassies throughout the world gathered musicians from diverse cultures to unite in a call for tolerance and humanity.
"We have been inspired by the kindness, dedication and talent of the musicians and entertainers who have joined us this year to remember our son and to unite the world in music. We look forward to a significant expansion of this program next year," said Judea and Ruth Pearl, Co-Founders of the Daniel Pearl Foundation.
