St. John Providence Health System and Henry Ford Health System to benefit from "A Night of Charity"

WARREN, Mich., Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On October 20, 2011 Art Van Furniture's flagship store in Warren, Mich. will be transformed into the lively streets of New Orleans for "A Night of Charity in the Big Easy," where guests can dine on delicious Cajun cuisine, listen to soulful jazz music, witness unique performances and dance the night away - while supporting two great causes in the community.

St. John Providence Health System's Infant Mortality Program empowers families to help themselves by making a connection with mothers, fathers and other family members to help build and sustain families, reverse the high infant mortality rate, promote literacy and increase access to health care. The Infant Mortality Program was established in 1986 by the communities of women religious to address the alarmingly high rate of infant deaths in Detroit that far exceeded those of developing countries. In Michigan, African American infants are three times more likely to die before their first birthday. Since its inception, thousands of families have benefitted from Infant the Mortality Program, more than 1,600 babies were born to clients and more than 9,000 clients have been served. The religious congregations affiliated with St. John Providence Health System and Trinity Health have been sponsors since the program's beginning.

Henry Ford Health System's Perfect Depression Care is a unique program that has shown to dramatically reduce suicides within the health system's patient population. The program was created for patients with depression by the Behavioral Health Services Division of Henry Ford Health System in 2001. The rate of suicide in Henry Ford's patient population decreased by 75 percent from 89 per 100,000 patients to 22 per 100,000 in the first four years of the program's implementation, significantly lower than the annual rates for suicides in similar patient populations. For ten quarters, the program helped achieve a rate of zero per 100,000. These remarkably low rates of patient suicide stands in marked contrast to an expected rate of 230 per 100,000 as reported from scientific research.
