Mr. Lehrer is the 39th winner of the Fourth Estate Award which honors a lifetime of distinguished contribution to journalism. The first winner of the Fourth Estate Award was Walter Cronkite in 1973. Lehrer, like all winners of the Award, will become a Lifetime Member of the Press Club. The dinner is a fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute. Dinner sponsors include: BNSF Railway, Toyota, PBS, Rutherford Wine Company, Burson-Marsteller and Brown Capital Management.

About Jim Lehrer

Jim Lehrer began his career with PBS in Dallas and moved to Washington in 1975. A year later the show was named "The MacNeil/Lehrer Report. Over the next seven years the show won more than 30 awards for journalism excellence. Upon Robert MacNeil's retirement in 1996, Mr. Lehrer became the sole anchor for the Newshour and has been ever since. He has moderated 11 Presidential Debates. He is the author of a recent book about the debates experience Tension City. He is also the author of 20 novels, two other memoirs and three plays. He announced his retirement from the Newshour earlier this year.
