Benni Cinkle Turns Her Viral Value Into a Charitable Crusade
CHALLENGING YOUTH TO A GLOBAL PARADIGM SHIFT AMIDST A BULLYING EPIDEMIC
NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following international attention as "that girl in pink" dancing in the now infamous "Friday" video, Benni Cinkle became the subject of harsh public scrutiny. Yet unlike most other teenage girls, she reacted with unbelievable maturity: Rather than fighting back, she sought to disarm such persecution-many times even going so far as to laugh at it, spawning a now international phenomenon.

Harnessing her exposure to serve as a medium for change, Cinkle founded the non-profit organization affectionately named the That Girl in Pink Foundation (www.thatgirlinpink.org). The organization now serves as a platform for children in need, no matter the cause, no matter the issue, no matter their locale. In essence, she is a proud crusader who, despite her age (she is just 14 years old), works tirelessly to be an ear for those in need.
This hot-button cause is a timely one and with the numbers of bullied victims at an alarming high, other charities are lending That Girl in Pink their support. In a recent response to fan requests to hear her sing, Benni composed the anthem, "Can You See Me Now." The dance track packs a powerful positive message that strings together the stories of teens afflicted by abuse, depression, molestation, and self-mutilation. The song was released on iTunes with all proceeds distributed between That Girl in Pink and its five supporting charities: The Trevor Project, GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network), TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms), Childline, and I'm Alive.
Daryl Presgraves, Director of Communications at GLSEN, says, "We are thrilled to accept Benni's generous contribution and are very much looking forward to this partnership. Benni's positive message of acceptance, respect and believing in yourself is important for young people to hear."
Up next for the trailblazer will be a Nationwide School Tour, in which 10 lucky schools will be selected to have Benni as a guest speaker and performer. Each campus will be able to hear about her refusal to be bullied, and her urgency for others to do the same.
