Top Chicago Radio Personality Takes One for the Team to Stop Drunk Driving

CHICAGO, Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With Labor Day approaching and the end of summer drawing near, more drivers across America will head to the streets in cars versus a leisurely stroll to the local hot spots. With this comes an increase in traffic leaving the local watering holes after last call. Pete McMurray, veteran morning show host for Chicago's 97.9 The Loop and NBC Chicago's "24/7" television show, rises to the call of educating listeners as to the true effects each alcohol beverage consumed plays on your judgment.

McMurray will be participating in a "Wet Lab Experiment" sponsored by the Illinois State Police live on The Pete McMurray Show on 97.9 The Loop this Friday August 26th from 6am-10am. A wet lab is a controlled environment in which a person actually consumes alcohol to a level of 0.08 BAC (the legal limit in Illinois), demonstrating the real-life effects of alcohol on an individual's motor skills.

"It's not every day you get to come to work, drink on the job, share the entire process with our listening audience, and do something positive for society at the same time," commented McMurray. "It is important for people to know what effect even a single drink can have on your abilities and judgment. Even at 6am when we're starting the show and certain third shift socialites are just hitting their favorite pub."

McMurray will be joined by WGN's "Living Healthy Chicago" host Jane Monzures in Friday's wet lab experiment. "Alcohol affects different people in different ways. Jane lives the epitome of a healthy lifestyle, but unless she is just cooking with her wine on Friday, we are going to see how it affects her as well," continued McMurray.

In 2009 alone, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates show 319 people died in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver. Each year in Illinois, nearly 50,000 people are arrested for driving under the influence.

A press conference will be held at 10:45am on Friday by the Chicago river in front of the Merchandise Mart immediately following The Pete McMurray Show. In attendance is expected to be Marva Boyd, Illinois Department of Transportation, Michael Witter, National Transportation and Safety Administration, Lt. Blanco of the Chicago Police Department, and other state and local officials.

The Pete McMurray Show has enjoyed some of the top ratings in the Chicago market for the last six years. McMurray's recent guest include the likes of Jane Fonda, Dennis Leary, Pamela Anderson, Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds, Jeremy Piven, and every celebrity A-Lister to grace the Chicago skyline since the shows inception. McMurray's amazing attitude and in your face style has made him a favorite host for everything from the days hottest music artist and sports stars, all the way to the top Hollywood insider gossip and the people involved.
