Cox Communications Operational Recovery Update on August 29, 2011
Cox Communications Operational Recovery Update on August 29, 2011
CHESAPEAKE, Va., Aug. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
-- In our efforts to actively update customers of our progress, Cox
Communications has established a new customer status report which is
available at www.cox.com/hr. This is to allow customers to view the
status of the restoration process in their specific communities. This
information will be updated at minimum once daily. Customers are
directed to visit this website to obtain information on the progress of
their neighborhood's service restoration.
-- As we work to restore customers' service, here are important tips for
you:
-- If you have power and you do not have Cox service, please first try
to reset all of your Cox equipment. To reset equipment, customers
should power down and unplug their device(s), wait a few seconds,
and then re-start.
-- Please know that Cox lines do not always follow Dominion Power
lines, so having electricity to your home does not necessarily mean
that your Cox service will be available. If you need customer
assistance, contact us at (757) 222-1111.
-- When you contact Cox, please be aware that your wait time could be
longer than normal due to high call volume in the aftermath of
Hurricane Irene.
-- Service outages have been reported throughout the region and are
primarily due to power outages, wind damage and safety hazards which
prevent our technicians from accessing downed service lines. At this
time, more than 80% of Cox residential and business customers now have
their service restored.
-- Cox Business is also working to restore all commercial customer
services. As can be understood, there have been service interruptions
due to Hurricane Irene.
-- Cox Media advertising services have resumed normal operations.
Finally, Dominion has indicated that power should be fully restored to their customers by Friday, September 2. Dominion has also noted that this storm is the second worst in the company's history. This is important to note as Cox continues to make progress, it will still take some time before all customers are back in service.
