The Midwest's Near-Zero Waste Music Festival Combines a World-Class Concert with an Interactive Sustainability Experience
MILWAUKEE, July 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Rock the Green presented by Veolia Environmental Services, the Midwest's Near-Zero Waste Music Festival, announced today that The Fray will headline the music festival preceded by Ben Folds, Fitz and the Tantrums, Michelle Branch, Christina Perri and local Milwaukee musician, Evan Christian. Rock the Green will debut on Sunday, September 18 at Veterans Park at 11 a.m. The ticket prices are $25 for general admission and $50 for premier viewing. All tickets will go on sale July 23.
The bands were handpicked by Rock the Green founder, Lindsay Stevens Gardner, based on their collective appeal, current material and their support of Rock the Green's mission to host a world-class concert combined with an interactive sustainability experience.
"We're thrilled to host this caliber of talent at Rock the Green's inaugural Music Festival," said Stevens Gardner. "The show promises to entertain while showcasing all of the ways sustainability can play a major role in a large-scale music event without sacrificing the experience," Stevens Gardner added.
According to Stevens Gardner, The Fray will headline Rock the Green and is set to release a new single this fall.
The Denver-based band achieved mainstream success with their debut album How to Save a Life in 2005. Since, The Fray has released singles including the nationally acclaimed, Over My Head. In 2009, the band's self-titled album debuted at number one on the Billboard charts and was nominated for a GrammyAward for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2010.
Ben Folds is also set to play Rock the Green. Folds most recently launched Lonely Avenue, a new collaboration with Nick Hornby that was released in September of 2010. Folds' solo career has introduced three studio albums and he serves as judge on NBC's hit a cappella show, The Sing-Off.
Grammy Award-winning artist, Michelle Branch, currently touring in support of her new album due this late summer, West Coast Time, will also take the stage in September. "I try my best to live a sustainable life and support the organizations that are passionate about the environment. Rock the Green is a great music-inspired platform to showcase the things we can all do to bring focus to this cause and make change, one step at a time," Branch said.
According to Stevens Gardner, Fitz and the Tantrums, currently on their U.S. Sweet Dreams tour and best known for their single MoneyGrabber will join the inaugural list bands. Christina Perri, known for Jar of Hearts which sold more than two million copies and currently on her U.S. Lovestrong tour, lends her vocal prowess to round out the Rock the Green line-up.
Flamenco guitarist and leader of the Evan Christian Jazz Quartet, Evan Christian will add some soulful Milwaukee music flavor to the Rock the Green mix in September.
