Clickspring Design Earns 7th Emmy Nomination for "Meet the Press"
NEW YORK, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The 32nd Annual News and Documentary Emmy® Award nominations were announced July 18 by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Clickspring Design was among the nominees. This nomination, in the category for Outstanding Lighting Design and Scenic Design, was for Clickspring's work on NBC's "Meet the Press with David Gregory." The weekly program, highest-rated of the American Sunday morning televised talk shows, has featured headline-making interviews with national and world leaders for over 60 years, posing the tough questions on politics, economics, foreign policy, and other newsworthy issues.
Clickspring principal, Erik Ulfers, was commissioned to create a new set that would reflect the long history of one of America's most important public forums, while at the same time expressing the shows focus on urgent issues that require technological mastery. Working closely with NBC creative director Marc Greenstein, Clickspring created a visual statement that is a combination of library and lab. The bookshelves along the walls of the studio are lined with presidential papers, transcripts of important "Meet the Press" tapings, law volumes, and autographed books from guests appearing on the show. The books reinforce the shows' tradition of research and historical relevance, and serve as a frame and foundation for the most advanced information technology available in a television studio. There are 14 monitors in the stand-up area and an 85" plasma with touch screen interactivity that allow Mr. Gregory instant access to visual information, remote interviews, and filmed segments. The set ultimately reflects the shows' mission of journalistic excellence and sophisticated, civilized debate.
Ulfers shares credit with Clickspring's Executive Producer Lori Nadler, and designers Bryan Higgason , Kevin Kievit, Paul Benson, and Tarrant Smith. The NBC team included creative director Marc Greenstein, Executive Producer Betsy Fischer, and Washington Bureau Chief Mark Whitaker. The News & Documentary Emmy® Awards will be presented on Monday, September 26 at the Time Warner Center in New York City.
