You're Never Alone: Social Workers Help Patients through Treatment, Surgery and Recovery in Hospital

CHICAGO, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- When you are alone, being diagnosed with a serious illness can be difficult to handle--physically, emotionally and, oftentimes, financially. But patients facing treatment options need never feel alone. Specialized hospital social workers are available in many communities to provide a broad range of services, ranging from emotional support to community resource referrals, building relationships with patients in their time of crises. Support can include navigating medical options, understanding procedures inside the hospital and planning for care after discharge.

On Monday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Chicago Access Network (CAN-TV), Channel 21, will air a live call-in program, "Community Health," discussing the partnership role of these free, patient resources.

Host Lenore Janecek, president and founder of SAVE THE PATIENT, and Andrea Lietz, MSW, LCSW, ACSW--an oncology social worker at Chicago's Prentice Women's Hospital at Northwestern Memorial Hospital--will discuss how patients can connect and work with in-hospital patient advocates to make their treatment and recovery a less stressful experience.

Viewers are encouraged to join in the program, by calling-in their questions.
