Broadway Revival of ANNIE Causing a Nationwide Frenzy

Open Call Audition This Sunday in NYC

NEW YORK, June 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Does your child dream of being on Broadway? Well, so do thousands of little girls who are traveling far and wide to audition for the Broadway revival of ANNIE. To get kids prepared for the open call, they are seeking private coaching and Annie Prep Workshops with Artistic Director, Jessica Rofe of A Class Act NY, the award-winning studio for kids and teens.

"The competition is going to be fierce. I have students who are flying in from all over the country to audition. Most kids are green and don't know proper audition technique."

As a former actor, casting director and agent as well as the ex-wife of Gil Cates, Jr. who co-directed the award-winning documentary, "Life After Tomorrow," about the original production on Broadway, she has special insight into what the casting directors and creators are looking for.

"I'm preparing kids for what to expect at an open call, how to stand out from the thousands of other girls that will be seen, what audition songs show off their personalities and vocal abilities. We also talk about rejection, how to take constructive criticism and of course, I teach them audition technique."

A Class Act NY brought in Caroline Daly Antonelli for an Annie Prep Workshop on June 3rd. She played the role of Pepper in the original Broadway cast for nearly two years.

"Caroline was a great resource for these aspiring actresses and at the end of the workshop, she sang 'Tomorrow' for the kids in the original key!"

The girls jumped to their feet applauding. Lily Discepolo, 10, was in awe. "You could see the song," she said, "through her eyeballs."

Whether or not these kids secure a role in the production, Rofe still believes the open call will be something they will remember forever and a great learning experience.
