Wilmington's Cucalorus Film Festival Seeks Films and Freaks for 17th Annual Celebration

Cucalorus Film Festival selected as "One of the 25 Film Festivals Worth The Entry Fee in 2011" by MovieMaker Magazine

WILMINGTON, N.C., May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 17th Cucalorus Film Festival seeks submissions from filmmakers, video artists and creative spirits. Cucalorus is a non-competitive showcase of features, shorts and documentaries from around the world being held November 10-13. The festival screens over 150 films from emerging and established artists. Cucalorus is located in the historic port city of Wilmington, North Carolina, home to EUE Screen Gems Studios (one of the largest film production facilities in the U.S.) and a resurgent independent film scene.

Cucalorus avoids the red carpet spectacle, choosing instead to create an authentic experience for audience and artist interaction. Cucalorus is known for its inclusive rock n' roll atmosphere, with high-energy screenings and a host of late night parties, music, performance art and a lil' bit o' moonshine. The festival fuses noteworthy regional works with a broad selection of international films. The festival's UK Spotlight program screens a selection of the best filmmakers from the United Kingdom. Organizers are also launching a retrospective program featuring a filmmaker who has had a significant impact on North Carolina film culture. Cucalorus will announce the retrospective artist in early June.
