THE OPEN BORDERS FESTIVAL IN THOUSAND OAKS BRINGS ARTS AND MUSIC TO YOUR OWN BACKYARD

RAY MANZAREK, DAN HICKS AND THE HOT LICKS, THE KLEZMATICS AND OZOMATLI ARE ALL A PART OF THE ACT

Festival Set For June 2nd-August 7th

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Conejo Valley will spring to life this summer with the Open Borders Festival - a broad, eclectic and exciting suite of presentations suited for all tastes, representing the highest caliber of music, art and cultural offerings. The festival will take place in the former home of the Borders bookstore on Thousand Oaks Boulevard.

The building's landlord, Larry Janss, couldn't let an empty building with 40,000 square feet go to waste while waiting for the new tenant to move in this fall, particularly when he knew that Regenerate Films www.regenerate.org, a non-profit organization could generate funds through a magnetic music and arts festival. In fact, all profits from the Open Borders Festival will benefit multiple non-profit organizations who are dedicated to teen suicide prevention, sustainability and other social issues. As a result of the diligent deliberations and planning among the creative minds of Regenerate, Behr Browers Architects, the Thousand Oaks City Planning Department and the Ventura County Fire Department, all clearances had been received and the Open Borders Festival will begin on June 2nd with the "official" Grand Opening slated for Saturday, June 4th. In announcing this undertaking, Mr. Janss said, "The stars aligned, the ten weeks were available and what should have taken a year of planning was put together in eight weeks."

There will be performances, large and small, with a main stage offering national and international music while the small stage offers comedy, folk and country acts, poetry and a soapbox for rants. The festival will be open from 12Noon-10PM, Thursdays; 12Noon-12Midnight, Fridays and Saturdays and 12Noon-10PM on Sundays. Daytime admission is $5.00 which will be applicable to evening main stage ticket prices if the guest wants to attend the concert that evening.

An ongoing arts and crafts exhibition will be on display with artists rotating their works into and out of the venue, providing fresh experiences for the community to enjoy, absorb, consider, discuss and debate. The Open Borders art curatorial team has been carefully selecting a wide and broad assemblage of exquisitely talented artists from all schools and traditions of the art world.

In addition, the Four Friends Gallery, a professional gallery located in Thousand Oaks, California will showcase a significant offering of its collection of masterpieces of 19th, 20th and 21st century fine arts photography, including original works by Ansel Adams, Ruth Barnard and Edward Curtis as well as rare and fine examples of African, Himalayan, Tibetan, Nepalese arts along with Indian artifacts.

Visitors' senses will be stimulated through multi-media presentations, documentaries, video streams, lectures and, of course, food! Outside under the large, spreading oak trees lit by Chinese paper light globes, the food court will offer fresh cuisine suited to different and distinctive tastes. Several invited chefs will offer their wares, from greasy to wholesome, carnivorous to vegan of different national origins, and including, of course, local seasoned wood fired barbeque.
