Rentrak Announces Q1 2011 Domestic Rental Summary

PORTLAND, Ore., May 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak Corporation (NASDAQ: RENT), the leader in multi-screen media measurement serving the advertising, television and entertainment industries, today announced the company's Home Video Essentials Q1 2011 domestic physical media rental summary based on estimated consumer spending. Overall rental sales showed slight growth versus Q1 2010, and while the brick-and-mortar channel is declining, the by-mail/online subscription and kiosk channels are growing.

According to the company's Home Video Essentials tracking services, all physical media distribution channels (brick-and-mortar; by-mail/online subscription; kiosks) and formats (DVD; BD) generated $1.515 billion in revenue up 1.5% from totals of $1.493 billion collected during the first three months of 2010.

Breaking out by distribution channels, kiosk rental revenue estimates for DVD are up 28% from $281 million in Q1 2010 to $361 million in Q1 of this year. Conversely, DVD rental revenue for the combined brick-and-mortar and by-mail/online subscription channels are down by almost 13% from last year, mostly attributable to brick-and-mortar declines. However, Blu-ray revenue for the two combined channels are up over 35%.

Rentrak also released the top-10 renting DVD and Blu-ray titles in Q1 2011 for brick-and-mortar stores in the United States according to its Home Video Essentials service:
