Entravision's La Tricolor and El Gato Radio Stations to Broadcast Key Portions of Interview; Full Video Available on www.TVKINC.com
SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Entravision Communications Corporation (NYSE: EVC) today announced it has secured an exclusive one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama that will be broadcast across all of its 53 owned and operated television stations tonight, Thursday, May 12th during its local evening news broadcasts.
Entravision will also replay select portions of the interview on its La Tricolor and El Gato formatted radio stations in California, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado starting Friday during the Erazo y Chokolata show, which airs from 2:00 - 7:00 PDT daily. As part of the 360 degree coverage of this historic event, Entravision's interactive division will make the full video and transcript of the interview available through the KINC website (http://www.tvkinc.com), mobile applications and social media platforms after the interview airs.
The exclusive interview is being conducted by well-known and popular news anchor Adriana Arevalo of Entravision's "Noticias Univision Nevada," the daily evening news program on KINC-TV in Las Vegas. The interview was recorded earlier today at the White House with Ms. Arevalo and President Obama discussing a range of critical issues affecting the growing Latino population and Hispanic communities across the country, including immigration reform, the strong Latino electorate, national security and the economy, among other topics.
"We are honored to be one of the few television station groups invited to sit down and have exclusive access to President Obama," said Walter Ulloa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Entravision. "Latino voters continue to play a significant role in the political process and as the population grows, we have the unique opportunity to further strengthen this powerful base of voters and make an impact on the issues most important to Latino communities. Our participation and broadcast of this special interview with President Obama demonstrates our ongoing commitment to positively promoting civic participation by giving our audiences the information they need to make informed decisions about what's happening in their community, state and country."
Entravision has long supported initiatives that promote civic engagement. The company is an active member of the ya es hora campaign, The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), the National Council of the Raza (NCLR) and Mi Familia Vota, and has partnered with a number of organizations for public service campaigns.
The release of the 2010 U.S. Census data reconfirms the growth and strength of the U.S. Hispanic population and Entravision's position in some of the most attractive Hispanic markets in the United States. The Census noted that the overall Hispanic population jumped 42 percent in the last decade to 50.5 million, or one in six Americans. U.S. Hispanic population growth accounted for more than half of the total U.S. population increase in the last decade, and analysts estimate that the Hispanic population is on its way to make-up a third of the total U.S. population by 2050.
In addition, the 2010 Census reported strong Hispanic population growth in all of Entravision's markets, highlighted by growth in Orlando up 100 percent, Tampa up 89 percent, Las Vegas up 89 percent, and Washington, D.C. up 82 percent over the last 2000 Census tally.
"Entravision's markets are among the fastest-growing and highest-density Latino markets in the nation, with the Latino community representing 68 percent of all the population growth since the 2000 Census," added Ulloa. "Our viewers are extremely interested in hearing what President Obama has to say and we look forward to providing the news and information they depend upon most."
A nationally-recognized journalist and producer with a focus on politics, Ms. Arevalo joined Entravision as News Director of KINC-TV Channel 15 Univision in July 2006, where she developed and launched the first statewide newscast in 2010. Since then, she has interviewed a number of well-recognized and important political, business and cultural leaders for the station.
