May Viva la Value Hosts Bestselling Authors of 'Baby Bargains'

Online Radio Show Airs May 5 at 3 p.m. ET

LIVONIA, Mich., May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RedPlum, a leading provider of deals and savings on brands consumers want most, announced today that Viva la Value, featuring Lisa Reynolds, RedPlum's Mom Saver-in-chief, will host its next show on Thursday, May 5 at 3 p.m. ET on BlogTalkRadio, an online radio network. During this month's show, Reynolds will be joined by Denise and Alan Fields, authors of "Baby Bargains: Secrets to Saving 20% to 50% on Baby Furniture, Gear, Clothes, Maternity Wear and Much, Much More!" who will discuss ways to save on baby's first year. Reynolds will also be joined by new mom Kate Arcieri, a lifestyle expert and Editorial Director at redplum.com.

Baby Bargains, the Fields' third book, was inspired by the birth of their son, Benjamin in 1993. The book (which debuted in 1994) has been featured on Oprah, the Today Show and in Child Magazine. The Fields scoured the country for the best deals on cribs, bedding, maternity clothes and more. Next, they interviewed more than 100 first-time parents across the country, who provided insights into which baby products were best buys and which were wastes of money. Baby Bargains' editor's panel of juvenile products retailers provided crucial safety and technical background for the book's extensive list of recommended brands and products. The birth of the Fields second son (Jack) in November 1996 inspired the release of the 2nd edition of this book in March 1997. The 9th edition of Baby Bargains was released in April 2011, with updated material, new bargains and more.

A few tips the Fields offer:

-- Focus on the basics. Big box baby stores can be overwhelming, with a lot
of baby products. Key in on the basics: setting up a safe place for baby
to sleep (the nursery) and safe transport (car seats). Many items like
high chairs and toys are not needed immediately.
-- As a parent, NEVER pass up free money! From tax deductions to tax
credits, being a parent means freebies. And don't overlook your
employer: take advantage of benefits like dependent care accounts -
using pre-tax dollars to pay for child care will save you hundreds if
not thousands of dollars.
-- Shop at stores that do NOT have "baby" in their name. Costco for
diapers? Pet websites for safety gates? Regular furniture stores for
rockers and dressers? Yes, you can save 30% or more by not buying items
at baby stores.
