Syren's Latex Police Cap is an Arresting Look for Femme Fatale Britney Spears
Britney performs new single "Big Fat Bass" on MTV and Good Morning America in her custom couture rubber hat
LOS ANGELES, April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Pop goddess Britney Spears was a commanding presence in a gleaming black rubber officer's cap from Syren Latex, as she took the stage this past week for her first public appearances since 2009. The singer did a three-song set off her brand-new album, Femme Fatale, at both a surprise Vegas show at Rain nightclub at the Palms Casino, and at a Good Morning America taping in San Francisco. Spears, who changed costumes for each number, paired Syren's Muir Cap - a strict-yet-sexy latex police hat - with a lacy black leotard and fishnets. It was an arresting look for the debut of her latest single, "Big Fat Bass," produced by Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am.

Though the Good Morning America appearance aired March 29th to celebrate the release of Femme Fatale that same day, footage from the Vegas performance that preceded it didn't air till April 3rd, as part of the MTV special"Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale." Though MTV only showed highlights of the Palms show, this clip shows Spears' first-ever live performance of "Big Fat Bass" in its entirety. Shot by Britney fans John Sleiman and his boyfriend, Tyler Everett, whose YouTube channel shows other fun coverage of Spears' surprise gig at Rain, the clip shows the star emerge from her hiding place in a speaker box, wearing Syren's latex hat.
Given that the Vegas remix of "Big Fat Bass" incorporated past Britney hits like "Gimme More" and "Slave 4 U," it seemed only appropriate that she would wear the Muir Cap for this particular number, because it was a visual tie-in to another hit: "Womanizer." Spears had worn the Muir Cap to chauffeur a limousine in the "Womanizer" video along with other svelte Syren designs like the "Britney Vest" - a cleavage-enhancing tuxedo vest named for the singer because she was the first to wear what was then just a showroom prototype.
LA-based Syren - a couturier working exclusively in latex that's best-known for Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman suit and Katy Perry's appliqued candy halter dresses - patterned the Muir Cap after an authentic WWII officer's cap. The Muir Cap, which is popular with men as well as women, retails for $173.00. It's available in sizes S - XL at the designer's online store, Syren.com, or at their Los Angeles boutique.
Celebrity designer Zaldy, who designed Britney's costumes and requested the Muir Cap from Syren, also designed the costumes for the final tour planned by Michael Jackson.
