Quixote Studios Co-Sponsors Levi's Pop-Up Film Annex at MoCA in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, April 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Quixote Studios is pleased to co-sponsor the Levi's Film Workshop in the Geffen Contemporary at MoCA in Los Angeles. The pop-up film annex is a state-of-art working green screen stage with professional grip and lighting equipment provided by Quixote, L.A.'s leading supplier of stages, equipment and production vehicles. Providing emerging filmmakers with access to this production unit is part of the studio's continuing effort to support the film community. "Helping young artists realize their dreams provides a sense of purpose to what we're doing beyond renting stages and equipment," Quixote CEO Mikel Elliott says.

Filmmakers who want to use the space for more extensive productions can submit treatments for consideration. Quixote will provide additional lighting and set equipment free of charge to selected applicants. This space and equipment gives budget-strapped filmmakers an opportunity to showcase their talents. "L.A. is the filmmaking capitol, and we want the entry point to be more tangible," says Dee deLara, Quixote's Vice President of Marketing. "We foster relationships with future producers and directors because they continue to see us as their partner and friend in production."

To enhance the hands-on, collaborative learning experience, Quixote is hosting an eight-part professional lecture series, with classes in directing, camera operating, lighting and more. Guest instructors include commercial director/director of photography Albert Kodagolian, director/editor Greg Tillman and lighting technician David Slodki. Slodki, who has worked in the lighting departments for blockbuster features including "Star Trek," "Iron Man 2" and "Spider-Man 2," says he is proud to play a part in these seminars. "Quixote continually surprises me with what they do for the film community," he says. "They really commit to giving new talent a leg up."

The installation, open from April 14 to Aug. 4, is part of "Art in the Streets," the first exhibit to showcase the U.S. history of graffiti art from its underground origins in the 70s. The series also features Michel Gondry, Shepard Fairey, Cinefamily and the USC School of Cinematic Arts 3D Lab. The Levi's Film Workshop supports community-based venues by providing creative resources to explore different crafts. Its most recent venue was a photography workshop held in New York City's Soho district.
