Legendary Commentator Highlights SNR's Baseball Coverage

HOUSTON, March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Major League Baseball teams are not the only teams honing their rosters in preparation for the opening day of America's favorite pastime. Mission Media Group, LLC, which distributes content under the Sporting News Radio (sportingnewsradio.com) name, announced today it is returning award-winning baseball Commentator and Writer, Peter Gammons, to its line up to enhance the network's baseball coverage. Starting this week, Gammons will offer his expert analysis and commentary on the Sporting News Radio network through regular guest appearances and daily features. He will provide a 2-minute commentary daily, addressing all of the top baseball events. Gammons also will host quarterly preview shows for Opening Day, the All-Star Game, the draft, the Division Series, and the World Series. Gammons will be heard daily on more than 150 affiliates of Sporting News Radio, including such top stations as WFAN, New York; WSCR, Chicago; KTCK, Dallas; WIP, Philadelphia; KNBR, San Francisco and WEEI, Boston.

At the 2005 Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cooperstown, New York, Gammons accepted the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for outstanding baseball writing. He also received top honors from his peers, as he earned the National Sportswriter of the Year for 1989, 1990, and 1993 from the National Sportswriters Association. Yale University awarded Gammons the honorary Poynter Fellow.

Gammons joined Sporting News Radio for opening day of baseball season last year. He also serves as a baseball analyst for the MLB Network and worked previously for ESPN in a similar role from 1988 through 2009 and as a writer for ESPN.com. Gammons launched his career as a reporter for the Boston Globe in 1969 and wrote a weekly Sunday baseball column for many years. During his career he worked with "Sports Illustrated" covering the National Hockey League, college basketball and Major League Baseball. He also served as a contributor to "Baseball America." In 1984, Gammons wrote the critically acclaimed book "Beyond the Sixth Game," a look at free agency.
