Austin Recovery to be featured on A&E's 'Intervention' Program
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Austin Recovery, the largest drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas, has teamed up with the Emmy® Award-winning "Intervention" program to save an addict's life. The episode, featuring Austin Recovery, airs tonight on the A&E Channel at 8 p.m.
"Intervention" profiles people whose dependence on drugs and alcohol has brought them to a point of personal crisis or estranged them from their friends and loved ones. Each episode features a surprise intervention staged by family and friends of the addict. The series has conducted 172 interventions since its premiere in March 2005; 134 individuals are currently sober.
"Approximately two million Texans annually suffer from addiction to drugs and alcohol," said Jonathan Ross, CEO of Austin Recovery. "Of those two million people, we treat approximately 2,000 each year with medical detoxification and residential treatment. That leaves a lot of Texas families suffering from the impact of addiction. Austin Recovery is here to help."
With a success rate near 90 percent over 90-day follow-up periods, Austin Recovery offers 30- and 90-day residential treatment, as well as medical detox and outpatient treatment. Austin Recovery's Family House also allows women to bring two children under the age of six with them to treatment.
This week, Austin Recovery and "Intervention" are focused on helping "Benny," an ambitious inventor and entrepreneur who once dreamed of becoming a millionaire. Stress, drugs and alcohol turned his dream into a nightmare. Worst of all, he is no longer a dependable father to his six-year old daughter. Benny, now 38 and living with his mother, has seen his relationship with his family reach a breaking point.
"This is typical of addicts and alcoholics who need help," said Ross. "It's important for families and friends to remember that no one wants to grow up to be an addict or an alcoholic. When they're ready for help, Austin Recovery offers high-quality, affordable treatment for those seeking recovery."
