Ricardo Salinas Pliego Inaugurates Esperanza Azteca Youth Orchestra in the State of Chiapas with Governor Juan Sabines
TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Esperanza Azteca youth orchestra system welcomes its latest member in the state of Chiapas. Under the auspices of Grupo Salinas Chairman Ricardo Salinas Pliego (www.ricardosalinas.com) and Chiapas Governor Juan Sabines Guerrero, the Chiapas orchestra gave an inaugural concert on Sunday at the Emilio Rebasa auditorium in the capital city of Tuxtla Gutierrrez.
The concert was also attended by Chiapas' first lady Isabel Aguilera de Sabines, Maria Laura Medina de Salinas, Fundacion Azteca Executive Esteban Moctezuma Barragan, the federal Education Ministry's Undersecretary Fernando Gonzalez Sanchez and Proyecto 40 CEO Luis Armando Melgar, among others.
During the event, Governor Sabines plans to create two additional orchestras this year in the state in Tapachula and San Cristobal de las Casas.
Ricardo Salinas Pliego congratulated the young musicians and their parents, adding that music is a unique tool to create ties between youth and their families, adding that it is also key in boosting self-esteem and confidence. The Chiapas orchestras, directed by Rodrigo Diaz Bueno, are a joint project between the Chiapas State Government, the Federal Education Ministry and Grupo Salinas' Fundacion Azteca.
The orchestra performed to standing ovations a program that included: "Terra Nova", "Ludwig's Tango", "Starfleet" and "Dragon Hunter," by Richard Meyer; Extracts from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony; Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No 5; Handel's Hallelujah Chorus; Telemann's Trio in A Minor; "O Fortuna," from Orff's Carmina Burana and "Las Chiapanecas," by Juan Arozamena.
The Esperanza Azteca youth orchestras are part of a social action program spearheaded by Mexican entrepreneur Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego to encourage excellence and self-esteem in youth through music.
The system includes youth orchestras in 23 states throughout Mexico, with over 5,000 participants.
