CounterPoint Performs With Shahid Rassam at Pakistan Embassy

WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Featuring the exciting chamber music group CounterPoint and the distinguished Pakistani artist Shahid Rassam, a powerful artistic experience takes place on February 8 at the Pakistan Embassy under the auspices of His Excellency Husain Haqqani and sponsored by Northrop Grumman, Citi and the National Bank of Pakistan. "I am delighted to welcome back CounterPoint and to be able to bring this distinguished artist to the American community and to support his powerful message," said Ambassador Haqqani.

A concert of classical western music and traditional Pakistani music will accompany the opening of Rassam's first solo exhibition, Worshippers and Sinners. Featured will be the creation of a "live painting" created while accompanied by the orchestra. Featuring the internationally acclaimed Soprano Esther Heideman, CounterPoint will perform works by Mendelssohn, Evan Ziporyn, Handel and Villa Lobos, as well as Pakistani music with Tabla virtuoso Debu Nayak and Tahir Ahmad on the Rabab. The Exhibition will be open to the public through February 11.

"CounterPoint is honored to return to the Embassy of Pakistan and join with the distinguished Pakistani artist Shahid Rassam in this evening's collaboration as a testimonial to the transcendent power of music and art and as a vibrant example of how we are all bound together no matter where we live or what we believe," said James Bernstein, Chairman of CounterPoint.
