In a special donation ceremony, the National Museum of American History will receive a collection of objects from The Baldknobbers, the first country music and comedy show in Branson, Mo. Tim Mabe will present costumes and hats worn by Jim "Droopy Drawers" Mabe, Lyle "George Aggernite" Mabe and Bill Mabe, as well as brochures, souvenir books, pamphlets, unique musical instruments and other objects to the museum's entertainment collections.
In 1959, brothers Bill, Jim, Lyle and Bob Mabe began entertaining visitors on the Taneycomo lakefront with The Baldknobbers Jamboree. The Baldknobbers became an immediate hit with the fishermen and tourists in the Branson lakes area performing with a washtub bass, banjo and dobro and even a mule jawbone for rhythm. The show continued to expand, and The Baldknobbers Jamboree Theatre now seats 1,500 people.
