COMPTON, Calif., Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowned "Best Church Choir in America" at the Verizon Wireless "How Sweet the Sound" contest, the Voices of Destiny, under the leadership of Pastor Michael J.T. Fisher of The Greater Zion Church Family in Compton, California, will perform with gospel recording artist James Fortune at the 2010 BET Celebration of Gospel, Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles, CA. VOD will share the stage with some of the biggest names in gospel.

"I couldn't believe it when we won the 'How Sweet the Sound' contest! And now here we are performing at the BET Celebration of Gospel! It just doesn't seem real. We are so excited, grateful and honored," says Pastor Fisher.

On October 11, 2010 VOD swept the regional competition at the Staples Center in Los Angeles with an electrifying performance to a remix of Bryon Cage's "The Presence of the Lord." The $15K prize money was used to make repairs around the church. This victory landed them a spot to compete in the nationals in Washington, DC on November 13, hosted by multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning gospel artists CeCe Winans and Donald Lawrence. Marvin Sapp, Karen Clark Sheard and Fred Hammond served as judges. VOD competed against 13 of the best choirs from around the world. Again, dazzling and astounding the audience with an unprecedented, electrifying and smartly choreographed performance, they were crowned "Best Church Choir in America" taking home the grand prize of $42K in cash and prizes. They will also go on to perform at the Stellar Awards, the 2011 Gospel Superbowl Celebration.
