Beijing's Central Conservatory of Music, School of Piano Becomes All-Steinway

LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Steinway & Sons has announced the addition of the Central Conservatory of Music, School of Piano, located in Beijing, China, to its illustrious list of All-Steinway Schools. The world-renowned conservatory owns 127 Steinway grand pianos and 41 Boston grand pianos designed by Steinway & Sons. This includes instruments for performance spaces, teaching studios, classrooms and practice facilities.

On October 25, Wang Cizhao, President of the Central Conservatory of Music, received a commemorative plaque from Werner Husmann, Vice-President of Steinway & Sons Hamburg, as they joined students and faculty who gathered to witness an important moment in the school's history. The All-Steinway designation was made in conjunction with the Central Conservatory of Music's 70th anniversary celebration in 2010.

"Steinway & Sons is deeply honored that our instruments are the exclusive choice of the Central Conservatory of Music, School of Piano in Beijing," said Thomas Kurrer, President of Steinway & Sons Worldwide. "We are very proud to partner with this distinguished and celebrated institution."

"As a world-renowned conservatory, it is our responsibility to provide first-class, reliable instruments for our students and faculty to ensure that our teaching activities are at the very highest level and to provide an environment where more young talents can be cultivated at our conservatory," said Wang Cizhao, President of the Central Conservatory of Music. "It is a great honor that our School of Piano has become an All-Steinway School."

Among the Central Conservatory of Music's most prestigious alumni are Lang Lang and Yuja Wang, who share a unique bond with another All-Steinway School, The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, which has been an All-Steinway School since its founding in 1924. Both Chinese pianists studied at The Curtis Institute with Steinway Artist Gary Graffman.
