Snow Bunnies Give Thanks: Ski Season Kicks Off This Weekend at Lutsen Mountains
Four new terrain parks and great entertainment
LUTSEN, Minn., Nov. 24, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- As snowflakes continue to pepper the North Shore peaks, Lutsen Mountains' snowmakers are taking advantage of colder temperatures to coat the hillsides and kick off the 2010-11 winter season on Thanksgiving Day. Starting this Thursday, Nov. 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 4: 00 p.m., skiers and riders at Lutsen Mountains will have access to two lifts and 3 to 5 runs on Ullr Mountain. Lifts will again be open from 9 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the gondola and additional runs on Moose Mountain projected for the weekend.
New to Lutsen Mountains this season is a progressive series of terrain parks designed to provide terrain features to skiers and boarders of all levels. Beginning on Ullr Mountain with basic, introductory features, the parks progress in difficulty across Eagle Mountain with slightly larger, more challenging features, Mystery Mountain's new bordercross course and culminate with Moose Mountain's full line of banks, hips, jibs and jumps for intermediate and advanced riders.
"By creating separate parks based on level of difficulty, we can safely introduce skiers and riders to freestyle terrain while also giving experienced riders the thrill of advanced features," said Dave Sontag, Park Manager at Lutsen Mountains. "The four parks also give us the opportunity to spread out traffic and give all visitors, whether they're freestyle enthusiasts or not, a great winter experience."
It's Getting Hot on the Mountain
With more bands and entertainment still to be announced, Lutsen Mountains is excited to kick off another season jam-packed with apres-ski music and weekend entertainment. After musicians James Moor and Timmy Haus kick off the season with their acoustic apres-ski sets, Papa Charlie's continues the entertainment season on Saturday, December 4th with Throw the Fight, a full-on rock show to jump start the season followed by the White Iron Band on December 11th, a high-energy country rock band specializing in foot-stompin, forget-what-troubles-ya music.
On Saturday, Dec. 18, Papa Charlie's continues the 2010-11 entertainment season as The New Standards take the stage for a holiday concert. Critically acclaimed across the nation, The New Standards are a unique jazz trio that is making a splash with their personality-laden brand of heartfelt engaging performance and extraordinary musicality.
