NEW YORK, November 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Every Christmas season, more than 25,000 Salvation Army volunteers fan out across the country to ring bells and solicit spare change donations to the iconic red kettles from holiday shoppers. Dallas Cowboys Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones and the new Salvation Army National Commander William Roberts kickoff the 2010 Red Kettle campaign during the halftime of the Cowboys game versus the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints which will air on Fox Thursday starting at 4:15 pm ET. The Cowboys and Salvation Army also welcome three-time Grammy-winner Keith Urban as the featured act for the 14th annual kickoff performance on Thanksgiving Day.

The Red Kettle campaign has been one of the most recognizable and important charitable campaigns in the United States since its inception in 1891. Last year, a record $139 million was raised and the Salvation Army hopes to top that number this year. And for the sixth year in a row, The Salvation Army will allow donors and encourages all participating stations in the satellite interviews to become online bell-ringers by signing up to host an Online Red Kettle at http://www.onlineredkettle.org. The program allows individuals and organizations to host their own "virtual" red kettle on their personal, group or company website. Last year, online red kettles raised nearly $2 million and the army hopes to raise $3 million this year with improved Facebook functionality and an all-new Online Red Kettle iPhone application.
