BEVERLY HILLS PLASTIC SURGEONS RAISE FUNDS TO DELIVER CRITICAL MEDICAL CARE TO PEOPLE OF HAITI AND AROUND THE GLOBE
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 3, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The renowned plastic surgery experts Dr. Kami Parsa, DR. Jay Calvert and DR. Andrew P. Ordon of The Doctors television show present a "Season of Giving" silent auction and fundraiser for the foundation Surgical Friendson November 4th, 2010 at the Mosaic Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Last year, the surgeons launched the foundation, an unprecedented collaboration to tackle difficult, and often life-threatening, reconstructive cases of individuals in need.
Surgical Friends foundation's mission is to unite philanthropists, reconstructive surgeons, and the patients that need surgery but cannot afford it, due to lack of access or financial difficulties. As plastic surgeons with sub-specialty expertise, they are well-suited to perform these life-altering surgeries. Most of the foundations patients have physical deformities that are congenital, post-traumatic or acquired in nature.
Surgical Friends next international mission is scheduled for February 2011. A medical team will travel to Haiti to provide needed medical care to those injured in the 2009 earthquake and the aftermath that followed. Dr. Ordon and Dr. Parsa have traveled to Haiti in July, 2010 and found that the level of need is critical. They will bring a team of 3 - 5 surgeons along with support staff to provide care for the patients with burns, facial injuries and extremities.
In the first year of operation Surgical Friends has made a difference in the lives of many both domestically and internationally but the need is still great. "It is our pleasure to provide care to those in need with the backing of Surgical Friends Foundation. Without the foundation, our presence in Haiti is impossible. We look forward to this trip and to providing the best possible surgical care to the people of Haiti," said Dr. Jay Calvert.
The Need
-- For many of the 2.4 billion people living in the world's poorest
regions, only 5% of the needed emergency and essential surgery is
performed.
-- In today's conflicts, 90% of the victims are civilians and if they
survive they are left with physical deformities.
-- In most developing countries, children with deformities are not allowed
into schools.
