Cox Communications Introduces Whole Home DVR, New Trio Guide, and More HD Channels

'Plus Package' Upgrades and Personalizes the Home Entertainment Experience

WEST WARWICK, R.I., Nov. 19, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Cox Communications today announced that customers in New England now have access to its superior new home entertainment experience, the Plus Package, available with Cox Advanced TV for $5 per month.

Plus Package includes the new Whole Home DVR, the Trio Interactive Program Guide, 500GB (up to 250 hours) of DVR storage, and new HD channels available only to Plus Package subscribers.

"The Plus Package gives our customers more great HD content; easier, more intuitive discovery of programming; the ability to personalize their TV viewing; and, with Whole Home DVR, anytime/any room access to what they want to watch," said Doreen Studley, vice president of marketing, Cox New England. "We are especially excited for Cox customers to experience the revolutionary Trio guide, which we built in response to their feedback on how a better guide could improve their TV viewing experience."

The Plus Package includes the new Trio Interactive Program Guide, which offers many new features to streamline the process of finding, recording, and watching programming. Trio is customizable to meet the customer's specific needs, and it allows users to search simultaneously across three platforms: Live TV, On DEMAND, and DVR recordings. It's also the first guide from Cox presented in HD.

"The more intuitive navigation and powerful search and browse capabilities we're giving customers with the Trio Guide will help them get more out of Cox Advanced TV as they uncover new entertainment favorites," added Studley. "Customers will be able to access their favorite programming rapidly and will more easily find content of interest that they may not know is available."

In addition to Trio, another major aspect of the Plus Package is the Whole Home DVR, which allows customers to record or watch a show on one TV and then continue watching on another. The features include:

-- Standard DVR features, such as pausing and rewinding live TV
-- 'Active Bookmarking' to allow customers to start watching a show in one
room and continue watching in another
-- 500GB (up to 250 hours) DVR storage, more than three times that of Cox's
standard DVRs
-- Watch up to three programs simultaneously
-- Schedule recordings from every TV in the home using Trio

Cox is using the Tru2way-based Cisco HD DVRs and HD receivers to deploy the Plus Package. The new Cisco receivers also have the capability to tune above 860 Mhz, making Cox among the first cable operators to begin delivering video in the 860 Mhz spectrum.

Because of this capability, the Plus Package features 18 new HD channels, including SWRV, DIY, the Cooking Channel, and the HUB (channels 820-823), as well as channels from HBO, Showtime, and Starz available to subscribers of those premium channels.

Customers can add the Plus Package with Whole Home DVR to any level of Cox Advanced TV (digital video service).
