Ayuda and the Verizon Foundation to Hold Event on Nov. 16 to Raise Awareness of the Impact of Domestic Violence on Latino and Immigrant Communities

Organizations Will Host Screening of 'Telling Amy's Story' and Panel Discussion With Community Leaders and Legal Experts

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- To help raise awareness about domestic violence and its negative impact on the Latino and immigrant communities, Ayuda and the Verizon Foundation will host a special screening of "Telling Amy's Story," a documentary airing on PBS TV stations nationwide about a Verizon Wireless employee who was murdered by her estranged husband in 2001. The screening, followed by a panel discussion with community leaders and legal experts, will be held on Tuesday (Nov. 16).

Ayuda is the leading source of multilingual legal and social assistance for low-income immigrants in the Washington metropolitan area. The organization assists with issues of immigration, human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault.

Representatives from Clinica del Pueblo, El Zol 99.1 FM, Family Place, Latino Federation, My Sister's Place, SAFE (Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment) and WEAVE (Women Empowered Against Violence), along with Judge Jose Lopez of the D.C. Superior Court Domestic Violence Division will participate in the panel discussion and be on hand to answer questions and provide resources and referrals.
